That Melbourne performance effectively killed plans to roll the show out nationally and, according to staff, triggered those severe job cuts as ARN tried to balance the books. He then confirmed what everyone had been speculating for days: \u201cJackie has given notice that she can no longer continue to work on the show with Kyle on breakfast. As such, Jackie has now officially left the show.\u201d\u200b\n\n\n\nSmallzy went on to say that \u201cKyle has been given 14 days to remedy a serious breach of contract in respect of the show. You\u2019ve officially heard it from us\u201d. \n\n\n\nHe also tried to gently steady the ship, reminding listeners \u201cthere\u2019s a saying in showbiz that the show must go on\u201d and stressing he was \u201cnot here to replace either of them\u201d, just to \u201ckeep the station on the air\u201d.\u200b\n\n\n\nLater in the show, he checked in with long-time newsreader Brooklyn Ross, who admitted, \u201cI don\u2019t think anyone can believe what\u2019s happened\u201d. \n\n\n\nRoss, who has been part of the program for 12 years, said he was \u201cobviously great friends with Jackie and Kyle\u201d and would remember his time there as \u201ca great ride\u201d. \u200b\n\n\n\nARN\u2019s official line\n\n\n\nWhile all of that was unfolding on air, ARN had already locked in its legal and corporate position via the stockmarket. In its ASX announcement, the company said Jackie O Henderson had given notice she \u201ccannot continue to work with Mr Kyle Sandilands\u201d, and that ARN had \u201cterminated the services agreement with Henderson Media Pty Ltd\u201d, meaning she would no longer present\u00a0The Kyle & Jackie O Show. It described Sandilands\u2019 conduct on 20 February as \u201cserious misconduct\u201d and confirmed he had been suspended for 14 days to \u201cremedy a serious breach of contract\u201d.\u200b\n\n\n\nIf that breach isn\u2019t fixed to ARN\u2019s satisfaction, the company says it will terminate its deal with Sandilands\u2019 company, Quasar Media, and he will \u201ccease to present\u201d the show. You thought I was gone for good, but far too much transpires for this author to remain silent. It is assuredly a reunion rooted in care and love. Though this time with a very different author.\u201d So whoever\u2019s picked up the quill is someone who cares about the Ton enough to keep narrating its mess, but brings a different perspective.\n\n\n\nJess Brownell has also said they wanted to \u201clet Penelope move onto a next chapter as a novelist\u201d and use a new Whistledown to bring back proper mystery, red herrings and fan theorising, especially now that the show has diverged from Julia Quinn\u2019s books on this point. That means the next author isn\u2019t locked to any book canon, aka she could be anyone.\n\n\n\nThe obvious suspects\n\n\n\nEloise (Claudia Jesse) is the obvious first suspect: she\u2019s opinionated, allergic to nonsense, and already spent multiple seasons investigating Whistledown. She has both the literacy and the rage for a sharp column, and Brownell has talked about wanting to keep exploring women\u2019s limited choices and the ways they find agency in that world. Doing it again might feel like a remix rather than a twist. But who knows what will happen with Eloise next season. \n\n\n\nIn a chat with the star, Claudia told P.TV that just about anything could be in the cards for her character. \"[Eloise is] trying her best. I don't know what she's gonna do next season. She's like, 'fire breathing? That\u2019s exactly the strategic thinking you\u2019d expect from someone writing weaponised gossip. \n\n\n\nI'm glad this diva is back. She\u2019s now married to someone closer to her age and no longer financially desperate, which removes a huge chunk of motivation to risk her fresh start for a scandal sheet.\n\n\n\nHyacinth (Florence Hunt), on the other hand, is low\u2011key the most fun candidate. The show spends more time with the people who actually make this world run \u2014 housekeepers, maids, footmen. \n\n\n\nBefore season four aired, Brownell told P.TV that she \"had to be very careful not to essentially glorify poverty\".\n\n\n\n\"You know, there are 'happy servant' tropes. So we wanted to be realistic about the fact that the downstairs life was quite difficult, but also it\u2019s Bridgerton \u2014 you don\u2019t want to stray too far from the fact that people are here for fantasy and for joy,\" she explained.\n\n\n\n\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mlYEOsdFEWo\n\n\n\n\nA Whistledown who comes from that sphere would make a lot of sense. Servants hear everything and are constantly present while being socially invisible, which is basically a cheat code for intel.\n\n\n\nMrs Varley (Lorraine Ashbourne), the Featherington housekeeper, is the most obvious name in that lane. She\u2019s repeatedly shown to be good at finding information and quietly sorting problems before they explode. Giving her the quill would turn Whistledown into a kind of servant\u2019s commentary on the upper classes, so consider me sat!\n\n\n\nI mean she practically raised the OG Whistledown. (Image: Instagram)\n\n\n\nThere\u2019s also a solid case for someone in the Mondrich orbit. The Mondrich family move between classes more than most, so they see both the glitter and the grind. In season four, Alice Mondrich (Emma Naomi) talks to Queen Charlotte about diversifying whose stories are heard at court, which very neatly mirrors what Whistledown does: redistribute social attention, for better or worse. An Alice\u2011authored column could lean harder into systemic unfairness while still serving scandal, which feels aligned with the way the show has tried to widen its lens\n\n\n\nShe ate down this season. (Image: Bridgerton)\n\n\n\nCould Lady Whistledown still be Penelope? \n\n\n\nThere\u2019s also the option that this is all one big fake\u2011out and Penelope eventually finds a way to reclaim the Whistledown persona from a distance. She\u2019s talked about how suffocating it became once everyone knew who she was and started blaming her both for what she wrote and what she\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0write, especially with the queen trying to use her. \n\n\n\nStepping back, then quietly orchestrating things again later under a different arrangement, would absolutely solve that brand problem. That said, her surprise at the new sheet seems genuine, and the show has invested a lot in her having a clean, healthy exit: a baby, a hot husband, and a whole novel to focus on. Undoing that arc immediately would land weird.\n\n\n\nBrownell has promised that when the reveal lands, it\u2019ll feel earned, with \u201cclarity of suspect\u201d and subtle clues that were there all along.
