The CHILD Cohort Study is a prospective longitudinal birth cohort study examining the developmental origins of health and disease. CHILD recruited over 3,500 pregnant women who gave birth between 2009 and 2012, in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Toronto. CHILD is following their children from before birth to school age and beyond, capturing information on them, their parents and environments from biological samples, questionnaires, home assessments and clinical assessments. The core mission of CHILD is to advance knowledge about the genetic and environmental determinants of atopic diseases including asthma, allergy, allergic rhinitis, and eczema through trans-disciplinary and longitudinal study, with the goal of advancing the health status and well-being of children in Canada.
