  • [H4] I was born into a family of musicians and cops. Half of my eight uncles and a cousin were law enforcement officers. I became a professional drummer at the age of 15 and continued to care greatly for peace and justice. I have remained close to the law enforcement community and have always appreciated the heroes they are. I've always wanted to do something to let them know how much I care for them. This idea started back in 2016 in the days following the horrible sniper attack on police officers in Dallas, Texas, that took the lives of 5 officers and wounded 11 more. I grabbed the kids and told them we were going to do something both fun and nice. We went to a community garage sale here in Simi Valley, California, and bought a few small stuffed animals. We could then give them to police officers to let them know how much we appreciate them. These toys were something that they could keep in their car and see during their shift, reminding them that there are people who are behind them. We found an officer by the name of David Scher. He was busy on a couple of traffic stops. We waited and flagged him down, telling him we had something special for him. His reaction was priceless! He was so appreciative that we took the time to do that. We had a nice chat and let him know we appreciated all that he does for us and that we hoped he could keep that little pink hippo in his patrol car to remind him of these things. I knew from experience that he would eventually be able to use it for a child in duress on another stop. That would be a win-win in my book. Following that day, I wanted to be able to share that message and feeling with as many officers as possible. Fast forward to 2018 and I came up with the idea of I Got Your Back Coins. We launched eleven months later in 2019! Many collect and trade "challenge coins," however these coins are meant to be much more personal. They are high quality, shiny, and heavy with detailed graphics. These are not meant to be passed forward, but to stay in the officer's pocket to be a constant reminder of the people they work so hard to protect. My dream is that someday the majority, if not all of the law enforcement officers in our country would experience the joy of receiving one of these. We're excited to share a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these coins to many different law enforcement charities both locally and nationally. Another win-win!
