Upphaflega var það þó stofnað árið 1917, en vegna innbyrðis pólitískra átaka liðaðist það í sundur í smærri félög milli 1930 og 1940.Félagið er fjölmennasta stéttarfélagið í Vestmannaeyjum og eru nú yfir 1300 félagsmenn í félaginu.
